Fellow 7 summiteer who helped us with preparing for our first few mountains has written a book on her 7 Summit experiences!
Ania Lichota - Why The Hell Bother? How climbing the Seven Summits changed my life
From the back cover:
'This proves to be physically the toughest day of my life so far: I will fall apart and then reassemble myself emotionally; I will cry uncontrollably and keep going far beyond what I ever thought would be my limit.'
Ania had a full time job, no savings, no technical climbing experience and was a complete amateur at high altitude. Everest simply seemed unclimbable. Inspired, though, by nature, the physical challenges and the opportunity for self-discovery, step by step Ania climbed the highest peak on every continent.
As the adversities she faced on the mountains grew, she gained greater self awareness and emotional strength, as well as the mental capacity for physical endurance. She learnt the value of unconditional giving, and finally, humbled and reduced to tears by nature's most unforgiving environments, she learnt fully to trust her intuition and found the courage to enjoy the vulnerability of life.
Thanks to her openness, curiosity and constant self-questioning, climbing has given Ania an opportunity to examine life, her beliefs and values, which she has grasped to profound effect. She tells her story vividly, frankly and in telling detail.
